what is a mindset

WALT - I am learning to be a critical thinker.

Thinking about the text, I consider the following plus, minus and interesting points of discussion…

Plus
Minus
Interesting
We learn from our failures
Growth mindset
To be curious
Discouraged we can’t do this
Fixed mindset
I haven’t heard of having an open minded mindset before which was interesting to read for the first time.

I believe I have a growth mindset because I will mostly try and stay positive when I fail but I will sometimes give up if i've tried at least 3 times.
If I were to shift my thinking in one area of learning when at school, it would be maths because I aren't good at it and that's because i keep giving up so i were to i would try and have a positive mindset

What is a Mindset?

September 7, 2017 `` `
A mindset is a belief or an attitude that we have about something. Some mindsets are negative (“I am not good at singing”) – but they can also be positive (“I am kind to animals”).
Sometimes, our mindsets are part of the culture and history of where we live, and can even change with time (“Women can’t be doctors!”).
Mindsets may be based on stereotypes or generalisations, and not fact – for example, that: “People who wear glasses are smart” or “Boys are better at running than girls”.
How can I change my mindset?
Understanding that we have the ability to think differently about ourselves and those around us can help us to create new opportunities to grow and learn new skills.
Some ways to do this are to:
• Be curious and open-minded in our attitudes.
• Be open to learning new skills, and enjoy the challenge.
• Learn from our failures – they can teach us even more than our successes.
• Focus on the learning process, not just the achievement.
• Remember that the brain is like a muscle – the more we use it, the more it grows
• Always keep trying. Don’t give up!
Do I have a ‘Fixed Mindset’ or a ‘Growth Mindset’?
Many people have what Stanford University Professor Carol Dweck calls a ‘Fixed Mindset’. People with Fixed Mindsets believe that their talents or intelligence are ‘given’ to them, and can’t be extended or changed. They may see a test result as measuring their actual intelligence rather than simply being a snapshot of their skills at that moment in time. Focusing solely on the end result can make it easy to become discouraged when things seem hard, or don’t go well.
In a ‘Growth Mindset’, people believe that they can grow and develop their talents through time, effort, and dedication.
This means that we can learn, or get better at, just about any skill that we choose. As we practise a new skill – either a mental one such as learning a language or a physical one such as basketball – we create new links between synapses in our brains.
As we repeat these skills again and again, we strengthen these connections, and our abilities ‘grow’. Sometimes we use this to get better at something we are already skilled at, such as maths; but we can also learn something entirely new to us, such as ice skating.
When we understand that success comes from effort and practise, we can see how important it is to keep going, even when it seems difficult. Sometimes, things may go wrong. We may even fail at something we tried to do.
However, having a Growth Mindset means that we can understand that failures or changing circumstances are part of life, and don’t necessarily stop us from achieving a goal or from being successful. We can adapt. We have become resilient.
When we have a Growth Mindset, we learn to value hard work in others, as well as in ourselves. We can cope with disappointment and are able to make new plans to achieve our goals.
Thinking in a Growth Mindset encourages us to be independent thinkers in charge of our own learning, as well as giving us the freedom to enjoy the process of learning itself.

Technology Evolution - Has Society Evolved Too Fast?

Technology Evolution - Has Society Evolved Too Fast?
intro
You know what is humanity focusing on, ooh I know technology its whats keep us moving and what keeps us alive with medicine and power. This is a speech on the things use pretty much all day

Open your eyes see what we’ve built we have bots and droids, guns and power and with each second going by is something new being made. We all rely on technology think not go in the wild and stay there for the rest of life without tech,[pause] we’re always working on tech like this. Think back to 2007 we had quite a bit cars weapons power and look at to day were even working on laser  and plasma which will open even more things, like power and technology advancements. You know the first kind of electronic we invented was a remote. A remote that made the telegraph by sending relays using magnets that was in 1835 back then we didn’t even have proper toilets we would just chuck the stuff on the street. Could you imagine walking by a friend's house and a turd plopped on your head. Yeah that relationship was over anyway see how even the smallest of things made the biggest difference.

When you take a look outside your gonna see something new you can make something new why I just made something new this speech, don’t let it go to your head because science isn’t always easy so you’re bound to fail but just like HNI’s value resilience is the key to inventing now listen I want you to close your eyes and try to remember when great people were around, while you’re there thinking[pause], shake there hand to we had many people who changed the world and we have gone through different ages not birthday ages civilisation ages we’ve come a long way. Bronze stone marble even dirt were currently going through the age of technology I bet those fellas at stone thought stone was the best now then heres some of the greatest minds who changed the world. Albert who was a fantastic math metrologist and Bill Gates maker of one of the first computer programmes and was the richest man on earth.

Now then I have just a few more things to go over. We have made bad inventions in life. You may sometimes think, ‘why the heck do we have weapons?’ We don’t need more wars! Wrong we need them to survive. Were the dominant beast out there until aliens, come but till then were advanced. One day a bear may break into your house, steal your food and sit there staring at you maybe thinking of, I wonder if these things have honey. That’s where weapons come in and to fight crisis to eliminate people who are major threats like Hitler. Each tech we have even tiny ones make the biggest difference [ pull out cube] why look at this I could play with this all day.
Huh oh sorry to simple but fun

`` Now then, coming to my conclusion stepping on the brakes on this speech. I think we are advancing in tech so much but maybe too much too soon. We will be relying on tech which will make us weak. It will sometimes be good so one protect yourself animals are evolving and bears may be stealing your food. 2 were becoming too advanced for our own good. Just don't rely on tech it won't always be the answer[End].
